Hi! I’m Ben Zimmer. Most days, I drink black coffee and build high performance software systems for AI applications. I most recently worked as a data scientist at Prolego and as a machine learning research specialist at 3M / Solventum.
Skills
- Research: image processing, 3D mesh processing, machine learning (deep learning, generative models, sequence models, LLMs)
- Languages: Python, C++, R, Scala, Java, MATLAB / Octave, Rust
- Libraries and frameworks: NumPy, OpenCV, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, SpeechBrain, ONNX, transformers, llama-cpp-python
- Other: functional programming, Git, Linux system administration, AWS (EC2, S3, SageMaker), Docker, Scrum
Personal Software Projects
- secondary - markup language and static site generator for creating fictional universes, writing, and publishing.
- orbits - calculate the positions of the planets and plan constant acceleration flight paths between them. Built around a tiny, pure functional vector math library.
Talks
- Build Your Own Data Analytics Cluster (2015) - video - slides - demonstration of a Big Data stack with an n-gram viewer application I created using Cassandra, Spark, and R / Shiny.
